This is a “Tapas Time!!! Around Spain” Special Edition.

In our second post in Malaga we visit a Chiringuito.

A ”Chiringuito” is a bar or restaurant, selling mainly drinks and Tapas provisional building, at a beach. Fish food is used to be served in this kind of establishments.

Jesus Gutierrez Chiringuito is a restaurant at Misericordia Beach in Malaga where you can taste “espetos” of fresh sea food while you´re listening live music (on weekend).

“Espeto” is a tradicional way of cooking freshly-caught sea fish, most often sardines but also sae bream or calamari, speared on a log flat stick and barbequed over a hot fire on the sand of a beach.

This time we have ordered vegetables, sweet tomatoes & tuna, clams, sardine “espetos” and a Sea Bream “Espeto”.

We drunk an amazing and fresh white wine from Rueda (Valladolid).

One of the most popular places to #EnjoyTapasTime (aka “Tapear”) is Santa Catalina Square that is next to another Tapas icon, Las Flores Square.

In Santa Catalina Square you can visit Bar Fenix, an ancient bar with more than 30 years of history. Its typical Tapa is a battered prawn, “Caballito” in Spanish, with a big and fresh prawn and with a crunchy cover.

A Caña de cerveza (Cold Beer) is the perfect friend for this Tapa.

When we visited Bar Fenix, they offered to taste a new tapa created for the 2017 Route of the tapa. This new tapa is called “Puntabrava”, little squids and “Brava” sauce. Very interesting mixture.

Mapa la Viuda

Murcia, as a maritime region, has a lot of opportunities to find fresh sea food. “Cervecería La Viuda” is a good place to taste fresh food in the center of Murcia, near Francisco Salzillo Museum.

We ordered shrimp, quisquilla in Spanish, with its smooth taste, were excellent.

20170519_123104

But the star of the day were the prawns from Mar Menor, langostinos del Mar Menor in spanish.

Mar Menor is the biggest salty lagoon of Europe, is situated in the Region of Murcia and is a popular touristic destiny.

Mar Menor aérea new

In its waters lives an autochthonous prawn, it is smaller than a normal one but with an intensive and soft flavour.

Be careful and ask about price of prawns of Mar Menor, before order them.

Don’t forget to add a squeeze of lemon… as always  😉

Roasted Octopus, in Spanish “Pulpo al Horno” is a typical Murcian tapas dish.

In Murcia, Octopus is baked huge in the oven with onion and beer for two hours.

20170512_130946

A good roasted octopus, must be tender and crispy at the same time.

Every day at 12:50, in Los Navarros, roasted octopus is ready. It´s a very popular Tapa, sometimes it is run out of in less than one hour.

20170512_124557

It´s not cheap but is worth tasting it.

The second Tapa ordered was “Matrimonio” (marriage in English). A salt-cured Anchovy and a Vinegar Anchovy eaten together.

Don’t forget to add a squeeze of lemon… as usual  😉

The most Typical Tapa in Murcia is called “MARINERA”.

20170505_114320

A Marinera is an oval shaped crunchy bread stick covered with Olivier Salad and with a salt-cured anchovy on the top.

If you prefer, you can taste a MARINERO, is the same but with anchovy in vinegar instead salt-cured anchovy.

20170414_101846

You can also order an Olivier Salad Tapa if you don´t like anchovy anyway.

20170414_095437

The best friend for these tapas is a cold beer (Caña de cerveza in Spanish), it would be better  if it´s from Murcia.

Important!!!, on weekend it is usually crowed at noon
